Nike’s renegade Alpha Project division that began in the late 1990s birthed some wacky designs that were, quite frankly, unfit for the market. Perhaps the most palatable of their findings, outside of the Presto, was their line of futuristic basketball footwear that has aged incredibly well and is fondly rememebered as one of the finest eras in Swoosh basketball history. Eric Avar’s foam-based Flightposite line was halted at just three impactful chapters, but that wasn’t for a lack of visibility; they were issued to the NBA’s next crop of superstars such as Kevin Garnett, who sported this particular colorway (among many) of the Air Flightposite 2 during the 2000 Olympics (he was first to congratulate Vince Carter on his “Dunk of Death”). This first look reveals that the “Garnett” on the upper has been replaced by the Alpha Project dot stripe, but that won’t stop Flightposite fans from welcoming these back with open arms. A release hasn’t been announced yet, but it might make sense for a release to occur sometime in 2020 as an anniversary celebration of either the shoe or the 2000 Games. Full photos ahead.
