Aside from some standouts by GmbH, END, and Kiko Kostadinov, collaborations have been relatively slow for ASICS, the brand likely more occupied with evolving their own Sportstyle line. But just as they were to close the year on a quiet note, Extra Butter comes out of the wood works with their own collaborative creation.
Revealed by creative director Bernie Gross, the boutique’s forthcoming project appears far distinct from anything the Japanese footwear label has put out on their own. While it bears similarities to the Kayano 5 OG at its toe box, quite a fair bit of the construction seems tweaked in more ways than color and print. For instance, the tongue seems to be inflated at the vamp, nodding possibly to life vests as many pieces of text adjacent reference flight terminology.
